Mommy Makeover in New York
You love your children, but you may not love the effects of pregnancy and nursing on your body. From stretch marks to stretched muscles, from sagging breasts to sagging bellies, female bodies almost always show some wear and tear from childbearing.
The most frustrating thing of all is you can't do much about any of these marks of motherhood. Many women work hard to get in shape after childbirth and get back to their pre-pregnancy weight, only to see the bulging and sagging persist. You just can't fix stretched out tissues on your own.
Enter the mommy makeover. New York patients like you choose Dr. Elliot Jacobs to help them get their figures back. It's not about vanity, and you don't need to feel you're being selfish. You give your all for your family – a mommy makeover in New York with Dr. Jacobs will give something back to you. Schedule a consultation with him to find out more.
Our Mommy Makeover Philosophy
So what, exactly, is a mommy makeover? It's a set of cosmetic procedures that help women look more like they did before pregnancy. It's customized to fit the needs of each patient, and in that sense it's more a concept than a set procedure.
The classic mommy makeover involves a tummy tuck and breast surgery – usually a breast lift and often a breast lift with implants. But by no means is that combination set in stone. Some women are fortunate to regain their flat abdomen after pregnancy and may opt to have facial plastic surgery, such as a facelift or eyelid lift, along with breast surgery, or a less invasive option such as BOTOX® Cosmetic. Our goal is to work with you to design a combination that will give you the results you're looking for within the bounds of safety. To do that, we calculate how much time your mommy makeover will take in the surgical suite and whether the recovery process will be comfortable.
New York Magazine named Dr. Jacobs one of the best plastic surgeons in New York. He has worked with thousands of women to fine-tune their figures after pregnancy, and he'll be pleased to work with you too.
Mommy Makeover Overview
If abdominoplasty, or a tummy tuck, will be part of your mommy makeover, it's likely you will have liposuction as well. Dr. Jacobs will eliminate any residual pockets of fat you may have and sculpt a smooth, even layer of fat beneath your skin to restore your pre-pregnancy torso. He will tighten your abdominal muscles and remove extra skin, taking care to remove stretch marks where possible. Read more about abdominoplasty and liposuction.
Many women feel that nursing children has left their breasts "empty" and opt for breast implants when childrearing is behind them. Whether you need implants or not, if you're unhappy with the look of your breasts it's probably due to the stretching and shrinking effects of pregnancy and nursing. That's why Dr. Jacobs recommends a breast lift for many of his mommy makeover patients.
We use our accredited surgical suite for most cosmetic surgeries, even combination procedures. With intravenous sedation rather than general anesthesia, you should have fewer aftereffects to shake off during your initial recovery.
We'll advise you to look ahead and plan time to relax and recover for several days when you return home, taking a break from your usual family-related tasks. Particularly if you have a tummy tuck, you will need some help at first with meals, lifting children and so on. We caution our patients who are mothers not to overextend!
Depending on the procedures you elect, you will be back to some of your usual routines in a week to two weeks. Dr. Jacobs and his staff will help you understand what to expect after your cosmetic surgery. Contact our office online or call at 212-570-6080 to schedule your personal consultation.
Mommy Makeover FAQ
- What if I am not sure I'm finished having children?
If you think it's possible you might have more children in the future, you might want to choose liposuction now, if appropriate, and wait to have a tummy tuck or breast surgery. Come in for a consultation and Dr. Jacobs can help you decide what's best.
- Isn't it safer not to combine procedures?
Our first priority is your safety, and we will absolutely err on the side of doing less at once rather than pushing the boundaries of what's safe. That said, most combination surgeries that can be termed a mommy makeover are quite safe. We add an additional measure of safety by avoiding general anesthesia for most patients. The benefits of combination surgery include less cost for you and one recovery process instead of two.
- I really don't want breast implants, are they necessary?
When you're not sure what you need, and potentially uncomfortable with the choices, that's the perfect time to schedule a consultation. Dr. Jacobs is skilled at educating his patients and he can help you understand the possibilities including fat transfer, breast implants and a lift without implants. He will show you the results you can expect with all your options and walk you through the pros and cons.
