The Mini Tummy Tuck
Perfected by New York’s Plastic Surgeon
For the right patient looking for an abdominal shape-up, less truly can be more with a mini tummy tuck. For a busy mom seeking a post-pregnancy tune up, the procedure can tighten the belly with less downtime than a full abdominoplasty. For a weight loss patient with a few areas of the body to address, a mini tummy tuck can contour the abdomen at a lower cost.
In fact, for anyone whose abdominal concerns focus mainly below the navel, a mini tummy tuck with Dr. Elliot Jacobs may be just the right solution. Ready to find out? Contact us online or phone 212-570-6080 and let’s talk.
Mini Tummy Tuck vs. Full Tummy Tuck
The difference between the mini tummy tuck and the full tummy tuck is the area addressed. A full tummy tuck usually requires incisions from hip to hip and around the belly button, allowing the plastic surgeon to access the entire abdomen above and below the navel. In a mini tummy tuck, also called a partial abdominoplasty, the only incision is near the bikini line.
In your personal consultation with Dr. Jacobs, you and he will determine whether a mini tummy tuck is right for you. He will examine you and evaluate your skin quality and muscle tone. He’ll ask if you’re satisfied with the look of your navel, about your weight history, whether you plan to have children in the future and many more questions, then he’ll answer any questions you may have. He will be candid with you in his recommendations and leave the final decisions to you.
This 47-year old patient had a mini tummy tuck plus extensive liposuction of the abdomen and hips. She was inspired to lose 20 pounds after surgery.
Mini Tummy Tuck Surgery & Recovery
We perform nearly all plastic surgery procedures in our accredited Manhattan surgical suite. Most patients can have intravenous sedation, or twilight sedation, to sleep comfortably through the operation with no need for general anesthesia. Most mini tummy tucks take about an hour and a half to two hours.
Through the incision at your bikini line, Dr. Jacobs can repair lower abdominal muscles as needed, stitching them together to create a strong, flat lower torso. He can also perform light liposuction to banish stubborn fat pockets that dieting can’t touch. Finally, he will remove excess skin including stretch marks.
After surgery, we’ll place you in a supportive garment and take you to the recovery room to rest. A friend or loved one can take you home that same afternoon.
You can expect moderate discomfort for a few days—prescription and over the counter pain relievers will help. You’ll also experience some swelling and bruising for a while. Most patients plan one to two weeks away from work and arrange their schedule so they can return to their activities gradually. We will give you full instructions to follow before and after surgery so the recovery process will go as smoothly as possible.
