Botox® Cosmetic and Dysport
Dynamic wrinkles met their match over a decade ago when the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved Botox. New York residents were among the first to embrace the new, non-invasive rejuvenation option. When Dysport, a Botox alternative, was introduced more recently, patients in our area were equally enthusiastic.
Lines and creases caused by repeated muscle action – dynamic wrinkles – are those usually treated with Dysport or Botox. New York men and women see us most often for injections to smooth forehead lines, wrinkles between the eyebrows and crow's feet. Many more applications, some "off label," have been discovered for Botox and Dysport. In our practice, for instance, we use Botox as a treatment for hyperhidrosis, or excessive sweating, for the right patients.
Is Botox a good choice for you? Would Dysport be a better, or more cost-effective, option for your needs? How can you ensure you will look refreshed after treatment and not unnaturally frozen? An appointment with Dr. Elliot Jacobs is the best way to answer these and other questions you may have. Why not contact us online today?
New York Botox and Dysport Treatment with Dr. Jacobs
Unlike other New York cosmetic surgery practices and medical spas you might visit, when you come in for treatment with us, you will see Dr. Jacobs, our board-certified plastic surgeon. Dr. Jacobs feels strongly about meeting with patients himself, as there are many topics to explore and decisions to make together.
One consideration Dr. Jacobs can help you with is getting the maximum return on your investment. With many years of experience in both plastic surgery and non-invasive procedures, he has a unique background. He can show you where a treatment like Botox can help, and where another option such as a filler like Restylane would be a better choice. He can also help you calculate the cost of non-invasive procedures over time compared to the cost of cosmetic surgery. New York residents appreciate Dr. Jacobs' honest, open approach.
If you choose Botox or Dysport, Dr. Jacobs will first apply an anesthetic cream, which will minimize the discomfort of the injections. Then, he will place the injections gently and strategically where they will block the muscle action that causes your wrinkles. You'll notice lines and creases begin to relax within three days or less, with the full effect revealed over the course of a week. Most patients achieve the results they're seeing with just one treatment – results that last a few months up to as long as half a year.

Dysport and Botox FAQ
- Aren't Dysport and Botox essentially the same?
These two treatments are indeed very similar. In fact, they are derived from the same botulinum toxin. The main difference is that the active ingredient is suspended in a different solution. Dr. Jacobs can describe other slight differences to you which may make one or the other a better choice.
- Will I look worse after the effect wears off?
You don't need to worry that your wrinkles will be worse after Botox or Dysport wear off. You may think you've aged, however, since you are bound to like the way you look soon after treatment!
- I've heard Botox can cause eyelids to droop, is it true?
Droopy eyelids are a rare but possible effect of Botox injections, particularly if you choose an inexperienced injector. If this should happen, there are special eye drops you can use to lift your lids and the droopiness should dissipate relatively soon.
