Transgender Surgery in New York at our Practice
We are seeing more and more transgender patients in our practice, those who are transforming from male to female and vice versa, and people seeking a more non-binary look too. We hope—and believe—it’s because word is out in this tightly knit community that we’re a good choice for top surgery in New York as well as a few other gender affirmation procedures.
MTF Top Surgery Considerations
Just like nearly every other cosmetic surgery practice around the world, we perform breast augmentation. But unlike most others, we’ve been doing it for over 30 years. We are highly experienced in working with all types of physiques, from petite to generous, and we are comfortable meeting a variety of goals women have.
With that level of experience, we are adept at techniques that can be useful in working with transgender women. You can be assured that we know how to enhance breasts that have little natural tissue and not much extra skin. We can use implants or fat transfer to the breasts, and we can create a feminine appearance with minimal scarring.
FTM Top Surgery in New York
We believe transgender individuals interested in female to male top surgery in New York initially sought us out due to our reputation for male breast reduction. As one of the pioneers of this form of plastic surgery, and because we have been performing it for three decades, it’s quite possible we have operated on more man boobs than any other cosmetic surgery practice in the country. While working with transgender people is not exactly the same as working with guys with oversized breasts, the physical challenges are similar.
To get an idea about what we can do, we invite you to browse both photo galleries. See our growing collection of FTM top surgery photos here, then check out our before and after gynecomastia images.
Achieving natural looking results depends on many factors. First is the size of your breasts and your goals. We can modify our approach to suit your unique case—and we’ll discuss options at length in the consulting room. If hormone therapy has already reduced the size of your breasts, it’s quite possible we can offer minimal scar surgery as we did for our New York FTM patient Adonis. If your breasts are larger, we’ll consider other options and discuss all the pros and cons with you. Read about the nuances here.
Welcoming Transgender Patients for Surgery in New York
It goes without saying that choosing top surgery is a huge step for a transgender woman or man. While cosmetic surgery for most people is about refining or rejuvenating part of the body, for a transgender person it’s much more than that. We understand that when they come through our doorway, they are making a very important move in affirming their very identity.
Cathy Corrigan, Surgical Coordinator, says that despite how momentous top surgery is for New York transgender people, they tend to take it in stride. “By the time they come in to see us,” she says, “they have done their homework.” She says most have been in the care of at least one physician and many have seen a counselor. Some have had hormone therapy, although those seeking a more non-binary appearance may not have. In addition, “Many know someone who had surgery with us already and they have a sense of what to expect,” she notes.
Cathy’s role is to guide patients through the process, from their first appointment on. She also assists them in getting approval from their insurance company when that’s possible, and she oversees insurance billing after surgery to give patients the best possible chance of getting at least some coverage.
For Cathy and all the staff, it’s a pleasure to work with patients who have made decisions about their future so thoughtfully and prepared so thoroughly. She says, “It’s amazing to see their excitement when they achieve the body they’ve been waiting for.”
