A Fresh Face for “the Season”
New York is one of the most social cities in the world. A century ago, during what’s often referred to as “the Gilded Age,” the fall “social season” was a time to see and be seen. Writing for a website highlighting global society of the time, Evangeline Holland notes that New York “’flung itself headlong’ into a bevy of dances, receptions, parties, dinners and other activities.” Opera, fundraisers, debutante balls were all on the calendar.
Even though we connect with each other more informally today, fall is still a time of renewal of sorts. Vacations are over, kids are back in school and the holidays are coming. It’s a great time to refresh your appearance!
In late summer and early fall, many patients think about facial rejuvenation and ways to banish tired, dry skin and look more youthful without facial plastic surgery. While we customize plans for facial rejuvenation for New York patients, we have a formula that tends to work well—with adjustments. Here’s our one-two punch strategy for the skin’s surface and underneath.
Refining Surface Skin
To uncover glowing skin, we often start with dermabrasion. This rejuvenation technique uses a handheld device to banish dead cells that cause the skin to look dull. It’s especially effective for delicate skin around the lips.
In addition to dermabrasion, we find a medium-strength chemical peel works wonders for many patients. The solution is brushed on your face and neutralized after a few minutes. If you have those annoying “smoker’s lines” above your upper lip, we can paint the solution very carefully into the small folds. Your skin will shed its upper layers over the next several days and emerge bright and fresh again. Small wrinkles and acne scars will be smoother, and overall skin tone will look more even.

Boosting and Smoothing the Skin’s Foundation
Facial fillers are an effective non-invasive treatment for many people. Unlike methods that improve the skin’s surface, products like Restylane, Juvederm and others work from underneath to fill fissures and lift the skin. We can use them for the long nasolabial folds that form “parentheses” around the mouth or to fill tear troughs under the eyes and for a few other strategic areas.
For the final touch, Botox or Dysport treatment can be a good choice. These injectables relax dynamic wrinkles caused by repeated muscle action, so they work well for forehead lines, the “elevens” between the eyebrows and crow’s feet.
If you’re looking for more dramatic and lasting improvement, we offer many choices for refreshing your face. From eyelid surgery to a full facelift, we perform hundreds of facial procedures for both men and women. And we’ve been doing so for thirty years!
With all the options available today, it’s practically impossible to determine an approach that will be most effective—and cost effective—yourself. So come see us in New York. Facial rejuvenation is one of our specialties, and we’ll work closely with you to create a plan that fits just right.
