5 Reasons to Welcome Brow Lift Surgery
Hooray! Your plastic surgeon has recommended a brow lift!
Ok, so maybe that’s not your exact reaction. But if you’re in the hands of a board certified plastic surgeon with years of successful facial procedures to their credit, here’s why you might welcome the idea of a brow lift. Our New York patients are usually enthusiastic when we explain these reasons:
1) Brow lift surgery can accomplish multiple goals.
As we’ve noted on our main page covering brow lift details, this procedure is a bit of an unsung hero. It can deliver any and all of the following benefits: smoothed forehead wrinkles, softened crow’s feet, elevated eyebrows and an adjusted hairline. It can even help lift saggy eyelid skin and open up the eyes for an awake, refreshed look.
2) Forehead lifts are customizable.
For our patients in New York, brow lifts, also called forehead lifts, are always customized to meet their exact needs. We can make an incision across the top of the forehead, inside the hairline, to lift the entire upper face. For those who need moderate eyebrow elevation and some attention to overactive muscles, we can perform an endoscopic brow lift through smaller incisions. Some patients benefit from a procedure called a temporal brow lift that places incisions in the scalp near the temples. Even men with hair loss can achieve a more youthful look with a sliver of skin removed through an incision just above each eyebrow. If the eyebrows are bushy enough, the small scars are invisible!
There are other ways to ensure your brow lift suits your face perfectly. We explain our strategy and demonstrate what the results should be when patients come in for a brow lift consultation.
3) Many people can benefit from a brow lift.
Because the procedure is so flexible, many different kinds of people can benefit from forehead lift surgery. Younger people may elect the temporal lift for subtle rejuvenation, while those who are a bit older may elect to have the longer incision to lift forehead and eye area skin.
We also perform forehead surgery for transgender patients, particularly for those transitioning from male to female. The high hairline typical of a male face can be lowered with a brow lift, which has the added benefit of opening up the eyes for a rounder, more feminine appearance. 4) Brow lifts can be combined with other rejuvenation procedures.
Brow lift surgery is very often combined with other facial plastic surgery. One of the most common one-two punches is a brow lift/eyelid lift. In fact, some patients visit our Manhattan offices with eyelid surgery in mind and don’t realize they also need their forehead elevated to avoid an unnatural “hooded” look as eyebrows may seem too low after the eyes are opened up.
Forehead lifts are commonly combined with facelifts. Some patients opt for “the works,” meaning an eyelid lift, brow lift, facelift and neck lift all in one. We can even include a chemical peel in small areas to refresh surface skin as well.
5) Brow lift recovery is relatively easy.
There’s very little discomfort involved in brow lift recovery. Most patients notice a headache for about a day, and perhaps some feeling of tightness in the forehead area. You can also expect some swelling and bruising, though these post-op conditions are generally mild and resolve themselves quickly. Many of our New York brow lift patients are back to work in just a week.
As you can tell, a brow lift can be a powerful addition to your rejuvenation strategy. And when you add it in to all the other surgical and non-surgical menu options for your face, it’s easy to see why it’s important to choose your plastic surgeon wisely!
