Liposuction: Invest for Success
The old saying, “you get what you pay for,” was never more true than when applied to plastic surgery. And within the world of plastic surgery, it’s never more fitting than when applied to liposuction. New York residents frequently consult us for liposuction revision, and often we find that they initially chose an unqualified or under qualified provider in an attempt to economize.
Instead of choosing a liposuction surgeon based on a low price, consider these reasons to select an expert:
Poor liposuction results are difficult to correct. Hills and valleys, dents and shelves—these are not unusual when someone lacking proper training and experience performs liposuction. Irregularities under the skin can usually be improved, but it’s a tricky process that can require several measures. Fat grafting, additional contouring with small, precise instruments and even lifting and tucking skin might all be part of the surgical plan. But even in the hands of a skilled liposuction revision surgeon, your final results may not be as pleasing as you could have had the first time around.
You may end up paying more in the long run. It’s nearly certain that even if the initial procedure is a real bargain, adding revision surgery to correct problems down the road will make the final tab higher than what it could have been with one effective procedure.
Liposuction safety is not necessarily a given. Even though there is minimal “cutting” involved, liposuction is still surgery. It requires both some form of anesthesia and a local anesthetic, often lidocaine. When a board certified plastic surgeon and a highly trained anesthesiologist are your team, you need have no worries. But overdoses of lidocaine have happened during liposuction procedures. Choosing a liposuction provider who is not highly trained increases your risk of a rough recovery or worse.
No matter where they practice, on the far side of the globe or right here in New York, liposuction experts agree: getting it right the first time is the way to achieve the best results possible. And investing in a highly qualified, board certified plastic surgeon for your procedure is the way to make that happen.
